    The Wisconsin Department of Corrections, Prairie du Chien Correctional Institution (PDCI), is seeking to fill a challenging and interesting Building & Grounds Superintendent vacancy. PDCI is located in Crawford County.

    Position Summary:

    Under the general supervision of the Correctional Management Services Director, this position will plan and direct the institution building and grounds maintenance program and coordinate building construction/remodeling projects with the Department of Administration (DOA), Division of State Facilities (DSF). Responsibilities include maintaining buildings, property, equipment, and service systems in a safe and reliable operating condition. This position works with the Warden, Deputy Warden, Security Director, and Correctional Management Services Director to develop the biennial capital building request and the Department of Corrections six-year building project plan; conducts inspections, develops project requests, and creates reports; acts as administrative duty officer as directed by the Warden, and performs other duties as assigned.

    Special Notes:

    Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency to employment. Applicants who fail or refuse the drug screen will not be given further consideration for employment.

    Qualifications:

    Minimally qualified applicants will experience in the following:

  • Supervisory or lead worker duties (e.g. set priorities, coordinate, assign duties, train, review, monitor, assess skills, evaluate, the work of others, hire, discipline, etc.).
  • Planning, organizing, or directing activities concerned with the construction or maintenance of structures, facilities, or systems. (e.g. define space allocations; develop budget estimates for projects; prepare cost tracking and progress reports, develop project requests, coordinate activities to meet deadlines, order or requisition materials or supplies, inspecting and reviewing projects).
  • Inspect or review projects to monitor compliance with building and safety codes or other regulations.
  • Reading and understanding operating manuals, technical drawings and blueprints.
