The Department of Corrections (DOC); Division of Management Services has a Fleet Operations Specialist Limited Term Employment (LTE) opportunity at our central office, 3099 E. Washington Ave, Madison, WI (Dane County).

Position Summary: This position coordinates operational aspects of the Fleet Operations program for a 900 vehicle fleet. This position provides support for the administration of several statewide aspects of the Department of Corrections (DOC) fleet program including: fuel card program, fleet vehicle acquisition program, fleet vehicle disposal program, and the CDL program. This position provides assistance in the procurement and disposal of vehicles. This position works with the DOC fleet program officer to receive, inspect, and process all incoming and outgoing vehicles to the DOC. This position also assists in supporting and maintaining DOC’s information in the DOA Fleet database including: vehicle inventory, driver records, fleet maintenance, and mileage. In addition, this position aides in fleet data collection, analysis, and verification. Responsibilities also include assisting with vehicle recall notices, emission control testing, vehicle licensing, and vehicle titling. This person may assist with training new DOC staff in fleet and risk management processes.

Special Notes:

    Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

    Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting. The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency to employment. Applicants who fail or refuse the drug screen will not be given further consideration for employment.

    Special Note: Candidate must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin and meet State of Wisconsin Fleet Requirements

    Driver’s License Requirements:

    The person in this position must meet the following:

  • Have a valid operator’s license,
  • Have minimum of two years licensed driving experience
  • Be at least eighteen (18) years of age
  • The person in this position cannot have any of the following:

    Three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two years
    Operating While Intoxicated (OWI)/Driving Under the Influence (DUI) citation within 12 months
    Suspension or revocation of driver’s license

    Physical Requirements: Bending, Climbing, Cleaning, Sweeping, Shoveling, Carrying, Use of power drill/screw driver, and Driving.

    Other Requirements: This position will require spending a significant portion of time outside, sometimes in extreme temperature conditions

    Qualifications: Minimally qualified applicants will have:

  • Extensive knowledge of and proficiency using Microsoft office (Excel, Word and Outlook) and other programs (PeopleSoft, etc.).
  • Ability to use and teach the State Fleet Database and knowledge of fleet operations.
  • Knowledge of vehicles, including basic vehicle maintenance.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships.
