**Job Summary**
The Division of Public Safety and Security, University of Michigan Police Department is seeking a Guest Services Specialist (GSS). The GSS serves as first contact for individuals entering the Campus Safety Services building and provides a range of services.
The University of Michigan Police Department is a professional, full-service law enforcement agency with responsibility to provide police services to all areas of our campus community. Our mission is to contribute to and promote a safe and secure community, while respecting the rights and dignity of all persons utilizing facilities and programs of the University of Michigan.
**This position requires the candidate to successfully pass a thorough background investigation and drug screening**
**Responsibilities***
+ Act as the initial greeter for all visitors, students, faculty, and staff entering Main Front/Lobby of the University Police Department
+ Liaison with members of the police department, division, internal and external stakeholders
+ Able to perform office duties including filing, data input and accurately answer/direct phone calls
+ Administer screening protocol to authorize escorted or unescorted access in the building in compliance with the CJIS requirements
+ Offer assistance for way finding, mail, package deliveries and other requested information regarding other community services
+ Uphold policies, procedures, guidelines and restrictions of the University of Michigan Police Department while being respectful and courteous to a diverse audience
+ Monitor the immediate environment and report any suspicious activity or individuals to police personnel and/or Communications
+ Provide support with the security camera monitoring/alarm system in coordination with Communications
+ Coordinate with other departments and participate as needed to provide a safe, comfortable environment that meets the needs of student, faculty, staff and visitors
+ Perform other duties as assigned
+ This is a GSS uniformed position that may be called upon to perform the duties at other Guest Services Specialists locations when needed
**Required Qualifications***
+ Graduation from high school, supplemented by classes or training in assertiveness, customer service, conflict management, criminal justice, and/or communication, or equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary
+ Applicant must possess the ability to address and resolve problems on their own to include creative problem solving
+ Applicant must be able to multi-task at a high level, work effectively as part of a team and/or work independently
+ Applicant should be well organized and possess strong time management skills
+ Excellent interpersonal skills, customer service, oral and written communication skills, and a proven ability to initiate and maintain productive, collaborative relationships with internal and external constituencies
+ Applicant must be self-motivated in an environment where confidentiality and discretion are key
+ Ability to provide directions for and information about various services and campus locations, as well as within the local community
+ Maintain a secure and clean environment
+ Must be able to interact and communicate with a wide diversity of individuals
+ Applicant must be able to work well with the public while providing a superior level of customer service
+ Work is performed in primarily an office setting
+ Must be available to work flexible hours, sometimes overtime may be required
+ Internal applicants must follow the DPSS Hiring and Selection Order
**Desired Qualifications***
+ Associate’s degree or higher in a related field
+ Prior experience in a security and/or law enforcement setting
